The Alberta Gang Crime Suppression Initiative (AGCSI) is working to develop a provincial gang suppression strategy to counter the growing threat of gangs and gang crime in Alberta.
The Alberta Gang Crime Summit was held on June 25 and 26 in Calgary, and brought together 150 key decision-makers from across government, police agencies and not-for profit organizations to discuss and establish strategies and courses of action for the to suppress gang activity in Alberta.
Leading up to the Gang Summit, the AGCSI worked with government ministires to review best practices in the areas of awareness, prevention, intervention and enforcement. Based on the information collected, working groups developed actions to tackle gang crime. Stakeholder meetings were also held across the province to gain a better understanding of the impact of gangs on communities.
