Student At Law Program BrochureAlberta Justice offers a well-rounded and extensive articling program designed to expose students to as many areas of the practice of law as possible.

Each year we typically hire 9 students (six for Edmonton, three for Calgary).

  • Criminal Justice Division – prosecutions in the Provincial Court and the preparation of criminal law related legal opinions.
  • Civil Litigation – all aspects of civil litigation involving the Crown, including drafting pleadings, chambers applications and examinations for discovery.
  • Central Services – assisting with the provision of corporate commercial advice to various Ministries within government.
  • Public Trustee - exposure to estates and trust law, including the administration of deceased persons' estates, trusteeship for people with mental disabilities, and the protection of minors' property interests.
  • Family Law – presentation of child protection and maintenance enforcement cases and preparation of related legal opinions.
  • Option - one month in an area of practice unique to government, such as legislative drafting, constitutional law, aboriginal law, or environmental law.

Branch offices: General Prosecutions offices are located in various Alberta communities. Civil Law offices are located in Calgary and Edmonton. Articling positions are offered in Calgary and Edmonton.
