Provincial Offences Procedures Act (POPA) review

Ron Stevens, QC Minister of Justice and Attorney General has established the Provincial Offences Procedure Review Steering Committee, chaired by Thomas Lukaszuk, the MLA for Edmonton Castle Downs. The committee is reviewing the Provincial Offences Procedure Act (POPA) and will provide the Minister with a report on ways to make this act more efficient and effective. POPA sets out the procedures to be used for contraventions of provincial acts, regulations, and orders, as well as municipal bylaws.

The committee has completed its public consultation. Its report to the Minister is expected this spring.
